Pane

An iPhone as a real second display for a Mac, over USB or Wi-Fi.

The problem

Sidecar works with an iPad. There is no first-party way to use the phone already sitting on your desk as a second screen, and the third-party options generally mirror a window rather than presenting the Mac with a genuine display.

What we built

  • A macOS app that creates a true virtual display through CoreGraphics, so the Mac treats the phone as a real second monitor — arrangeable, with its own resolution and its own menu bar behaviour.
  • A hardware-encoded HEVC video path that runs over USB for latency or Wi-Fi for convenience.
  • An iOS client, plus a remote-control mode that turns the phone into a trackpad and keyboard for the Mac.
